Streamline Your IT-OT Convergence with UMH Integrated Platform's Data Infrastructure
Industrial IoT expands the ISA95 Automation Pyramid, the standard data flow model on the shop floor.
It enables high-speed data processing (gigabytes per second) using systems like Kafka and enhances system availability through clustering solutions like Kubernetes. Maintenance becomes simpler with technologies like Docker and monitoring tools such as Prometheus.
The addition of Industrial IoT also enables the use of AI, predictive maintenance, and digital twin technologies.
The UMH Integrated Platform connects every layer of the traditional automation pyramid to the Unified Namespace (UNS), integrating additional data sources not typically available in the automation pyramid.
This data is contextualized, stored, and processed, providing actionable insights for frontline workers, and subsequently exported to the company's global data lake and analytics platform for business analysts.
Node-RED is our default connector to the automation pyramid, and it works with most OT and IT protocols. We also offer additional microservices for automatic connection to OPC-UA, barcode readers, and ifm IO-link gateways. Third-party tools are compatible too, as long as they can send data to one of our message brokers (MQTT / Kafka). If IoT devices use MQTT, they can connect directly to the message broker.
Our message broker or Unified Namespace uses HiveMQ for MQTT and Redpanda for Kafka. This setup allows for easy connectivity to cloud-based Data Lakes via our Kafka bridge.
Applications for frontline workers can be built on TimescaleDB and Grafana. TimescaleDB is a combination of PostgreSQL with time-series data storage, and all data in the UNS is automatically stored in it. This data is accessible through Grafana via our API, with features like Historian or Shopfloor KPIs (like OEE) included by default. Alerts can also be managed through Grafana.
The UMH Integrated Platform's Data Infrastructure offers out-of-the-box features for the shopfloor, and it's 100% open-source
Unified Namespace / Message Broker with HiveMQ and Redpanda (Kafka)
Historian / Data Storage based on TimescaleDB, our API, and Grafana
Shopfloor KPIs / Analytics based on TimescaleDB, our API, and Grafana
Data connectivity with Node-RED
Retrofitting with ifm IO-link master and USB barcodereader
Alerting with Grafana
