Refer someone great. We'll give back to the community.

If you know someone who would be a strong fit at UMH, refer them to us. If they join the team and stay for six months, we will make a donation in your name to an open-source project or nonprofit organization of your choice.

Terms & Conditions.
Referral Program - Participation Terms UMH Systems GmbH, Cologne
1. Organizer

UMH Systems GmbH, Cologne (hereinafter "UMH").

2. Subject Matter

UMH commits to making a donation of €3,000 (internal referral) or €10,000 (external referral) to an open-source project or nonprofit organization of the referrer's choice upon successful placement of a candidate.

3. Eligibility

The program is open to all natural persons aged 18 and over. Excluded are members of UMH's managing board (Geschäftsführung), UMH investors, and the referred person themselves.

4. Process & Payment

The donation is triggered when: the referred person begins employment at UMH, and the employment continues uninterrupted for at least six calendar months, and UMH actively confirms the successful completion of the probationary period, and UMH needs to receive a donation receipt in return for internal bookkeeping. The donation will be made within 30 days of confirmation.

5. Attribution

A referral is valid if: submitted via email before or at the same time as the application, or submitted via email retroactively within 14 calendar days of the application being received. Where multiple referrals exist for the same candidate, the earliest submission (form timestamp) takes precedence. Referrals are non-transferable.

6. Forfeiture

No donation will be made if: the referred person does not complete the probationary period, the referred person declines the offer, the position is cancelled or filled internally, or the referring person leaves UMH before the six-month period ends.

7. Donation Recipient

After the probationary period, the referring person selects a project or organization. Eligible recipients are: Open-source projects with an OSI-approved license and an active donation channel (GitHub Sponsors, Open Collective, official bank account, etc.) and ability to issue a donation receipt. Nonprofit organizations with registered nonprofit status in any country (Germany: e.V. / gGmbH · international: 501c3 or equivalent) and confirmation of nonprofit status and ability to issue a donation receipt. Eligible causes include open knowledge, education, environment, social welfare, humanitarian aid, digital rights, science, and open source infrastructure. Not eligible: political parties, religious organizations, entities unable to issue donation receipts, projects without a verifiable legal structure, or projects from which the referring person personally benefits financially. UMH reserves the right to decline a nominated project. In this case, the referring person may choose again. If no agreement can be reached, UMH will select an established open-source project of its own choosing.

8. Communication

UMH will inform the referring person: upon receipt of the referral (confirmation), when the referred person is hired (including expected donation date), and when the donation has been made.

9. Voluntary Nature & Program End

Participation does not create any legal entitlement to future programs of the same or similar nature. UMH may discontinue the program at any time with effect for the future. Referrals submitted before the program ends remain unaffected. The program runs until 31 December 2026.

10. Liability & Tax Disclaimer

UMH does not provide tax or legal advice to referring persons. Any tax obligations are the sole responsibility of the referring person.

11. Data Protection

UMH processes the data of the referring and referred person solely for the purposes of administering the referral program. Personal data will be deleted no later than 6 months after a final decision has been made. Financial records will be retained for 10 years in accordance with statutory retention obligations.
